Anchored in God’s Peace
When Peace Is Found in His Presence
There is a kind of peace that the world cannot give us. The world often tells us that peace will come when the problems are resolved, the answers are clear, the bills are paid, the relationship is restored, or the storm finally passes. We may find ourselves thinking, “When this situation changes, then I’ll be able to breathe. Then I’ll have peace.” But biblical peace is different.
God’s peace doesn't require peaceful circumstances.
Jesus spoke these words to His disciples:
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.”
— John 14:27
Jesus knew His followers would face uncertainty, hardship, and fear. Yet He promised them His peace anyway. That tells us something important: peace isn't the absence of trouble; peace is the presence of God in the middle of it.
Where Have You Been Looking for Peace?
Sometimes we unknowingly place our peace in things that can change. We feel peaceful when everything is going according to plan. We feel secure when we have answers. We feel okay when the people we love are okay and life feels predictable. But what happens when those things change? Our peace can disappear with them. God invites us to build our peace on something—or other, Someone—who never changes. Our circumstances may shift. People may disappoint us. Plans may fall apart. We may walk through seasons we never expected.
But God remains faithful.
Isaiah reminds us:
“You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”
— Isaiah 26:3
Notice that peace is connected to where we place our minds and our trust. This doesn't mean we will never feel afraid. It doesn't mean anxious thoughts won't come or that we won't have moments when our hearts tremble. It means we don't have to allow those feelings to become our foundation. We can bring our fear to God. We can bring our questions to God. We can bring our uncertainty to God. And we can remind our hearts that the One holding our future is greater than anything we are facing today.
Peace in the Middle of the Storm
Being anchored doesn't mean the waters around us will always be calm. It means we have something deeper holding us when they aren't. There may be days when life feels loud and your heart feels overwhelmed. There may be situations you cannot fix and questions you cannot answer. You may not know what tomorrow will bring. But you don't have to know everything to have peace. You only need to know the One who does.
God's peace is something we receive as we draw near to Him. We don't have to manufacture it or force ourselves to feel peaceful. We can simply come to Him, surrender what we cannot control, fix our minds on His truth, and trust His character. And sometimes peace comes quietly. It may look like taking a deep breath and saying, “Jesus, I trust You.” It may be choosing not to rehearse the worst-case scenario in your mind. It may be opening your Bible when fear tells you to panic. It may be going to bed without having every answer because you know God is still awake.
That is what it means to be anchored. Not that you never feel the waves, but that the waves don't have the final say.
An Anchored Woman Chooses Where to Place Her Trust
As you move through this week, ask yourself: Where have I been looking for peace? Have I been waiting for my circumstances to change before allowing myself to rest? Have I been depending on certainty instead of trusting God? Have I allowed fear to speak louder than His promises? There is no shame in recognizing that your heart has been unsettled. God isn't asking you to pretend you're okay. He is inviting you to bring your whole heart to Him. And when you do, He meets you there.
Romans 15:13 gives us this beautiful reminder:
“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
The God of hope can fill you with peace—even before your circumstances change. So today, release the need to have everything figured out. Release the things you cannot control. Release the fear of what tomorrow might bring. And anchor yourself in the character of God.
He is faithful.
He is present.
He is good.
He is trustworthy.
And He is holding you.
A Prayer for God’s Peace
Father,
My heart can become so unsettled when life feels uncertain. I often look for peace in circumstances, answers, and things I can control, but today I choose to look to You. Help me fix my mind on who You are instead of what I fear. When the world around me feels unstable, remind me that You are my firm foundation. Give me Your peace—not the temporary peace that comes when everything goes my way, but the deep and lasting peace that comes from knowing You are with me. Teach me to trust You even when I don't understand. Help me become a woman who is anchored so deeply in Christ that the storms of life cannot pull me away from You. I surrender what I cannot control, and I choose to trust the One who holds it all.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
Reflection
Take a few quiet moments today and consider:
What circumstance have I been waiting to change before I allow myself to have peace?
Now surrender that situation to God and remind yourself: “My peace does not depend on what is happening around me. My peace is found in the One who is with me.” Stay anchored, sister. The waters may change, but your God never will.
