Peace in the Waiting

Waiting is one of the hardest places to hold onto peace. It is one thing to trust God when you can see Him moving, when the answer comes quickly, or when circumstances begin to make sense. But what about when you've prayed the same prayer for months—or even years—and nothing seems to be changing? What about when you are doing your best to trust God, but the silence feels deafening?

Waiting can make us question everything. Did God hear me? Did I pray the wrong prayer? Has He forgotten about me? Why hasn't anything changed? But there is something we have to remember: silence does not mean absence. Just because you cannot see God working doesn't mean He isn't working.

We often think of waiting as an interruption to our lives—as if our real life will begin once God finally answers our prayer. But what if the waiting is part of the work God is doing? What if this season isn't empty at all? God can use waiting to strengthen what is weak in us, deepen our faith, change our perspective, and teach us to depend on Him in ways we never would have learned otherwise. Sometimes God is preparing the answer. Sometimes He is preparing usfor the answer. And sometimes He is doing something completely different than what we expected. We may not understand it while we're in it, but we can trust that God never wastes a season surrendered to Him.

There are moments when God's silence feels especially painful. You've prayed. You've cried. You've waited. You've asked God to move, and yet the circumstances look exactly the same. But Scripture gives us a beautiful invitation:

“Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD!”
— Psalm 27:14

Notice that David doesn't simply say, wait. He says, be of good courage. Why? Because waiting requires faith. It takes courage to continue believing when you don't have evidence of the outcome you're hoping for. It takes courage to keep praying when the answer hasn't come. It takes courage to say, “God, I don't understand Your timing, but I still trust Your heart.” That is what an anchored woman does. She doesn't anchor her hope to a timeline. She anchors her hope to God.

We live in a world that wants everything immediately. We want quick answers, instant results, and clear explanations. But God is not bound by our timelines. Habakkuk 2:3 says, “Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry.” There may be times when God's answer seems late to us, but God is never late. His timing may stretch our faith, but it is never careless. He sees what we cannot see. He knows what we do not know. He understands the beginning, the middle, and the end when we can only see the moment we're standing in. We see the waiting. God sees the whole story.

Sometimes peace begins when we stop asking, “How long?” and start asking, “Lord, what are You teaching me while I wait?” Maybe God is teaching you patience. Maybe He's teaching you surrender. Maybe He's showing you that your identity cannot depend on circumstances. Maybe He's teaching you to recognize His presence even when you don't see His hand. Or maybe He's simply inviting you to know Him more deeply. Whatever He is doing, you don't have to waste this season wishing it away. You can meet God here. Right here in the waiting. Right here in the uncertainty. Right here in the unanswered prayer.

If you're waiting for something today, I want you to know this: God has not forgotten you. Your unanswered prayer is not evidence that He doesn't care. His silence is not proof that He has left. And your waiting does not mean your story has stopped.

Lamentations 3:31–33 reminds us, “For the Lord will not cast off forever. Though He causes grief, Yet He will show compassion According to the multitude of His mercies. For He does not afflict willingly, Nor grieve the children of men.” God's heart toward you is still good. So don't let the length of the waiting convince you that God has changed. He is still faithful.

You may not know when the answer will come. You may not know what God is doing behind the scenes. You may not even understand why He has allowed this season. But you can know Who you are waiting on. And that changes everything.

Being anchored doesn't mean you always feel patient. It doesn't mean you never get discouraged. It means that when discouragement comes, you return to the truth. God is faithful. God is good. God sees you. God hears you. God is with you. And God is still working.

So if you're waiting today, don't give up hope. Don't allow the silence to write a story God hasn't finished. Don't let the delay convince you that God has said no. Keep praying. Keep trusting. Keep believing.

And while you wait, let God do the work He wants to do in you. Your waiting is not wasted. Your tears are not wasted. Your prayers are not wasted. And this season is not wasted.

A Prayer for the Woman Who Is Waiting

Father, waiting is hard. There are days when I feel hopeful and days when I wonder if my prayers are even being heard. Sometimes I don't understand why You haven't answered, and sometimes the silence makes me afraid that You have forgotten me.

But today, I choose to believe what Your Word says instead of what my circumstances are telling me. You are faithful. You are good. You are still with me.

Help me trust You when I cannot see what You're doing. Give me the strength to wait without losing hope and the courage to believe that Your timing is better than mine. If You are using this season to prepare me, change me, or draw me closer to You, help me not to miss what You are doing while I wait.

Teach me to rest in Your presence instead of living in fear of the future. And when I become weary, remind me that You have not forgotten me.

I surrender my timeline to You. I surrender my expectations to You. I surrender the outcome to You. I will wait for You, because I know You are worth waiting for.

Reflection

Take a quiet moment today and ask God, “What are You teaching me in this season of waiting?” 

Then sit quietly with Him. You don't have to force an answer. Simply remind your heart: “God is not absent in my waiting. He is present. He is working. And I can trust Him.”

Whatever you're waiting for, sister, stay anchored. The answer may not have arrived yet, but God is already here.
